The California Western International Law Journal invites submissions for its upcoming joint Spring Symposium with the California Western Law Review, How Labor and Employment Laws Work in Today's Global Economy, taking place on Friday, March 28, 2025 at California Western School of Law. This year's symposium will explore the ever-evolving role of labor and employment laws in today's global economy. We desire a keynote speaker who can offer a unique perspective relating to international labor and employment law.
In addition, we welcome submissions related to the following topics from an international or comparative perspective, and invite submitters to speak on their respective topics at the symposium:

- Social Movements & Workplace Inclusion: The effects of social movements like #MeToo and Black Lives Matter on workplace inclusion, with a focus on DEI initiatives, the implementation of sexual harassment policies, and other workplace inclusion efforts. This will be a panel discussion with two to three other panelists and a moderator.
- Modern-Day Labor Activism: Strikes, Lockouts, & Collective Bargaining: An examination of strikes, lockouts, and the changing dynamics of collective bargaining in today’s economy. This will be a panel discussion with two to three other panelists and a moderator.
- Changes and Challenges from a Pre- and Post-Pandemic World: Insights into the ongoing impact of the pandemic, including remote work, the rise of the gig economy, and legal challenges such as the misclassification of independent contractors versus employees. This will be a panel discussion with two to three other panelists and a moderator.
- Technological Advancements in the Workplace: Exploring how AI and other cutting-edge technologies are reshaping the modern workplace, including ethical, legal, and regulatory concerns. This will be a panel discussion with two to three other panelists and a moderator.
- Any other relevant labor and employment law topics of interest.
- Articles should be between 10,000 and 25,000 words, excluding footnotes.
- Please include a brief abstract (250-500 words) and a current CV.
- We ask for Bluebook conformity.
- Articles can be submitted via email at ilj@cwsl.edu or through Scholastica.
- Please indicate whether you are interested in publishing, speaking, or both.

Please contact us by December 1, 2024, if you are interested in speaking at the Symposium. The deadline for accompanying article submissions will be announced at a later date, as publication is scheduled for next Fall.
Additional Information:
Accepted speakers/writers will receive compensation for travel and accommodations for one to two nights in San Diego.
We encourage submissions from practitioners, academics, and legal scholars who are engaged with or studying the impact of labor and employment laws on a national or global scale.
